After you happily agree to marry that special someone, you’ll soon learn it costs women an average of $27,000 to add Mrs. to the front of their names.
Yes, weddings can be costly. But there are ways to cut corners and still have a beautiful and memorable celebration.
Before you plunge into the planning, Linda Miller, owner of Paper Service Plus in Mankato, recommends preparing a budget.
“When asked, I will always encourage brides to sit with all parties involved at the onset and plan a budget,” Miller said. “Although it may be uncomfortable originally, knowing what you can spend and who is willing to provide money for this special occasion will release a ton of tension.”
Miller recommends looking for other family or friends who may be willing to help with financial planning. Grandparents, Godparents, extended family and friends might be willing to help.

The Allen Park Downtown Development Authority has unveiled a marketing initiative showcasing approximately six dozen wedding-related stores and service providers in the Downriver community. Like the funky boutiques in Royal Oak and the entertainment district along Mt. Clemens’ Main Street, the mission of Allen Park’s Bridal Mile is to make it a destination location.
Florists, photographers, clothing stores, beauty salons, bakeries, musical entertainment, dry cleaners who preserve wedding gowns, tanning shops and banquet halls dot Allen Road between University and Englewood, as well as parts of Ecorse Road and Park, DDA Executive Director James Sabo said.

Some brides dream of a grand promenade down the aisle of an elaborate church festooned with flowers, a gala reception, and a formal waltz in a stately ballroom.
Others, like Barbara Freet of Philadelphia, dream of something much more down to earth…or more precisely, down the shore…Freet and her new husband, Paul, were able to make their wedding dreams come true in Sea Isle City last September…and on a surprisingly modest budget.

You have to be pretty thrifty to spend only $5,000 on a wedding these days. Renting a beach house and using it as the wedding ceremony and reception site is a clever money-saving idea.
