Marissa White had already hired her wedding photographer, booked her wedding site and ordered her wedding invitations inscribed with her wedding date — Oct. 20, 2007 — when her fiance, Brandon, called from Iraq.

It was 5 a.m. on April 12. Marissa remembers it was a Thursday, that she needed to get ready for her English class at George Mason University. And she remembers that Brandon was in a terrible mood.

“Have you seen the news?” he asked her.

“No,” she responded. “Why?”

That was when he told her: The Army was extending his deployment. His unit wouldn’t be home until November.

November, Marissa thought. But, we’re getting married in October.

Kids Or No Kids At Wedding?

IT’S a question almost every bride thinks about. Does she want children — at her wedding?

There are pros and cons: They photograph well, but they steal attention. They don’t drink, but don’t always keep the costly food on their plates. Are children cute guests or annoying disasters waiting to happen?

Surprisingly, there is less professional guidance on the topic than a bride and bridegroom might hope for. Of the hundreds of wedding planning books on the Barnes & Noble Web site, there isn’t one exclusively devoted to it. Yet for all the histrionics associated with brides, few of their decisions are as likely to bring similar caterwauling from the guests

Here’s some late-breaking news about an anchorwoman’s earlier-than-expected wedding plans.

Lauren Freeman the newscaster and Dr. Forrest Roth the plastic surgeon were planning to be married in December, but who can wait that long? Now they’ll sprint down the aisle in mid-March.

“We just decided that December was too far away. So we decided to throw it together in six weeks. Whoever says you can’t plan a wedding in six weeks isn’t trying hard enough,” Freeman said.

Wedding Decorator Sued for Bad Job

Filed under: wedding planning guide — by weddingplanningnews @ 10:32 pm

Ilene Mirman wanted a fairy-tale wedding for her only daughter, and spent more than a year planning small details such as 50 parrot tulips lining the aisle.
She got a flower massacre.
Her daughter, who had tried on more than 500 dresses and took two trips to New York to find the right gown, had to walk down an aisle lined with sagging tulips that appeared to be dying.
Boutonnieres and flowers for the chairs lining the aisle were missing in action. And a discovery in the flower girl’s basket was even more gruesome.

No More Rice Throwing In Venezia

Venice officials want to take one ingredient out of a romantic Venetian wedding: Rice, to celebrate the newlyweds.Rice, traditionally thrown to wish newlyweds prosperity and fertility, has the unwanted side-effect of nourishing the city’s pigeons. Mayor Massimo Cacciari is considering the ban as part of efforts to reduce the pigeon population, which is damaging monuments and spreading filth in the famed piazzas, officials said Monday.
