CHICAGO – Katie Schad knew her boyfriend liked to enter contests.
But she never imagined the one he’d eventually win would put her on national television and make her his fiancée.
Schad, a 2002 Pekin Community High School graduate currently living in Chicago, said she was completely surprised by her boyfriend’s video proposal, the winning entry in an online contest sponsored by 1-800-FLOWERS and YouTube.

When Brennan’s Bridal Prom Tuxedos opened at 1 p.m. yesterday, 40 people were outside waiting, and Winston-Salem police were letting only one customer in at a time.
The crowd had gathered because many said they had heard worrisome reports about the store at 1606 S. Stratford Road. The store wasn’t open Monday, its Web site is no longer operating, and its telephone number has been temporarily disconnected.

Wow. Imagine the poor brides who don’t hear about this & fail to pickup their wedding party attire. These things happen a lot when bridal wear stores go out of business.

Lauren Freeman the newscaster and Dr. Forrest Roth the plastic surgeon were planning to be married in December, but who can wait that long? Now they’ll sprint down the aisle in mid-March.
“We just decided that December was too far away. So we decided to throw it together in six weeks. Whoever says you can’t plan a wedding in six weeks isn’t trying hard enough,” Freeman said.

Maybe you’ve sensed that Oklahoma had more than its fair share of top cake decorators. Well, you’re right as evidenced by the March/April Bride’s magazine feature “America’s 50 Most Beautiful Cakes.” Three of those cakes are from Oklahoma decorators.
Kerry Vincent and Jennifer Jones of Tulsa and Kim Payne of Cheyenne were selected for the feature, which also includes top New York City designers Sylvia Weinstock and Colette Peters.

Andy Schiff and his girlfriend, Melanie Ufema, and two of their friends were mere feet away from emptying their pockets of loose change in the security line at Denver International Airport when Schiff suddenly stopped.
He dropped to one knee, and instead of loose change, pulled a diamond ring out of his pocket. “Melanie, will you marry me?” he asked.
Schiff’s buddy had a video camera rolling — he was in on it, and everyone had agreed they should “document the trip” — so it was pointed at a stunned but grinning Ufema when she said, “Yes.”
Schiff says he wasn’t really worried Ufema would say no. “She was going to be on an airplane with me for eight hours, and we were going to Maui for 10 days,” he says. “She couldn’t say no. It was a foolproof plan.”
It took just a few days in Hawaii, with its pristine beaches, sun-toasted breezes and 10-at-a-time whale sightings, for the Denverites to come up with another plan, one that would involve persuading all of their immediate family members and many of their closest friends to hop on planes a year later for the Maui wedding.

PORT SALERNO — Two popular Martin County guide dogs are getting together this weekend to tie the leash.
Dr. John Metzler, the groom, and Gracie Kennedy, the bride, are having the first guide dog wedding Saturday as a fundraiser for the 20/200 Fellowship, an nonprofit resource center for the visually impaired.
The theme, “Recipe to Romance,” was inspired by Disney’s “Lady and the Tramp.” Spaghetti and meatballs will be served to humans only as the dogs are on strict diets to keep them healthy. The wedding cake will be fashioned out of Devil Dogs prepackaged snacks.
