Trendy Wedding Colors for 2008

If you want to spice up your wedding decor, it’s easy when you use a trendy color in your wedding color scheme.  Want to know what’s hot? Read on.

Hot Magenta – This snazzy pink color looks great on wedding flowers, favors and bridal accessories.  For the best look, pair magenta with lime green or crisp white.  For flowers in this shade, try anemones, roses and gerbera daisies.

Deep Chocolate – This trend from last year is still going strong. This season, brown becomes updated with fresh color pairings. To get the hottest look, pair chocolate brown with punchy colors like orange and magenta. Chocolate gives a very rich look to anything it touches, so use it to give extra elegance to handmade items like wedding favors.

Lime Green – On the cooler end of the spectrum, lime green brings in garden inspired color with a twist. Lime can be paired with white for a crisp classic look, or you can mix it up by adding lime to a citrus inspired palette.  You can also liven up a pastel palette with a touch of lime.  An easy way to incorporate this color is in your floral arrangements.  Many flowers come in green or have lime-colored foliage.  Hydrangeas, spider mums, and are all good choices.

Red Orange – Like chocolate brown, orange is making a comeback this year.  But unlike last year’s citrus hues, this season’s oranges come with some kick.  Red-toned oranges like tangerine look the freshest.  Orange can be incorporated by using roses, ranunculus, dahlias or even fresh citrus in your floral arrangements.

In 2008, the U.S. Postal Service will reissue the designs of the two
2007 Wedding Hearts stamps featuring vines that form the shape of a heart.
These stamps are designed especially for mailing wedding invitations and
RSVPs and are sure to add an elegant touch to invitations and response
cards.

The stamps will be available in two denominations to cover both the
one-ounce and the two-ounce mailing rates. Each one-ounce stamp is intended
for use on the RSVP envelope often enclosed with a wedding invitation. Each
two-ounce stamp will accommodate the wedding invitation with enclosures.
Illustrator Nancy Stahl of New York City based her designs on memories of a
wide range of intertwined objects, including silver charms and
old-fashioned garden gates. The one-ounce denomination features a sage
background, while the two-ounce denomination features a melon background,
as determined by Stahl and art director Carl Herrman of Carlsbad, CA

More Canadians are walking on sand instead of down aisles on their wedding day, and many are doing it in the Dominican Republic — so many, in fact, that it’s creating some hitches in getting hitched.

In 2006, more than 2,500 Canadian couples got married in the Caribbean country. Listin Diario, a daily newspaper in the Dominican Republic, reported in January that 20 per cent of weddings performed in the country are between foreigners.

To Register Or Not To Register?

Here’s the deal. The gift-giving tradition at weddings started because a young couple about to start a new life together could use a little help from their friends. I always think of the scene from “It’s a Wonderful Life” in which Mary and George Bailey are helping the Martini family move into their new home, and Mary gives the family salt and a loaf of bread, and George gives them booze. Sounds great to me! It wasn’t a wedding scene per se, but you get the idea.

Back in the day, gifts ranged from household goods to donations that would make the wedding celebration more memorable: One aunt might have supplied the cake, Grandma might have made the dress and an uncle would have lent his horse and carriage for the bride and groom to use in making their grand exit from the church. When my parents were married, they had but just barely finished college and no one had any money. I spent my first few years in a hand-me-down crib, and from what I remember, it was lovely.

Finding the right ring for this engaging time of the year

Last year, the average price of a diamond engagement ring was $3,200, according to the Diamond Information Center in New York. That figure represents a $600 increase over the average purchase price for engagement rings purchased in 2001.

Find a reputable jeweler, preferably one who belongs to a trade association, such as Jewelers of America, which sets high ethical standards and provides members with continuing education.
