Sure, the dress, flowers and cake are key, but the best way to turn a wedding into a party is with music. “People should start thinking about music for their wedding right after their engagement,” says Greg Denard, who fronts one of the country’s most popular event bands, GDO Soul, and has played alongside greats including Paul McCartney, James Taylor and Sheryl Crow.
“You may have to book a year in advance at least for a good, reputable band,” warns Denard, who has traveled the world, playing big budget weddings.
Here are his tips for ensuring your wedding sounds as good as it looks:

Think back 20 years. Can you imagine trying to locate musicians for a wedding reception in 1987? There was no Internet, no streaming video and no online audio clips. The search was basically limited to your local Yellow Pages, or nights on end of running all over town so you could listen to prospective DJs or bands perform live at clubs.
If your town (or another close by) didn’t have a band or DJ you liked, you were out of luck. There was no viable way to locate entertainment all across the country. Thankfully, today we do have the Internet. This allows you to have a huge selection of performers at your disposal, which can be previewed either via their own sites or through gig-booking sites. However, this enormous selection and wide geographic spread leads to questions. Here are the top 5 questions you’ll want to ask when hiring performers for your wedding.

I have been to a great many weddings lately. My friends’ children are all at the marrying age, and they all seem to be getting married this year.
In fact, I have planned all three of my rehearsal dinners. I know how many guests I will invite and what the tables will look like and what we will serve on great big white plates. I have it perfected, but alas, not only is there no bride in sight, there is not even a hint of a girlfriend between my three sons.
